The Group of Acorns International Schools celebrated its 30th anniversary by embarking on a significant tree-planting initiative, establishing 1,000 Ashoka trees at its Lubowa campus. This event underscores the school’s dedication to environmental conservation and fostering sustainable practices.

The tree planting is a key component of the school’s “30 Years, 30 WellBeing Initiatives, One Community” campaign. Environmental wellbeing is identified as one of the eight pillars guiding the campaign, aiming to create a healthier future for both students and the wider community.

Ms. Ameena Lalani, CEO of the schools, emphasized the integration of education with environmental responsibility. “We have always believed that while we contribute to the community through education, we must also be environmentally responsible,” she stated. This initiative is part of a continuous, long-term environmental program, not a singular event, reflecting a sustained commitment.

Adnan Jasani, the Board Chair, highlighted that environmentalism is a core value for Acorns, deeply ingrained across the entire school community, from leadership to students. He noted that true environmentalism means practicing sustainability in all aspects of life.

Community leaders and students alike have welcomed the initiative. Alain Amini, a local community leader, praised the school for setting a positive example and expressed hope that residents would be inspired to undertake similar conservation efforts. He pointed out the need for more trees in the rapidly developing Lubowa Estate to combat dust and improve air quality.

Students viewed the tree planting as a valuable practical learning experience, connecting classroom lessons on environmental management with real-world action. They expressed enthusiasm for contributing to a more sustainable future, emphasizing that even small actions like planting trees can have a significant impact on combating climate change.

This tree-planting event is one of many activities Acorns International Schools is undertaking to mark its three decades of providing education while championing environmental stewardship and community engagement.
