A total of 117 candidates have successfully earned their Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification following the May 2026 examination diet. This achievement brings the cumulative number of CPA qualifiers in Uganda to 5,676, as reported by the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAEB).
Out of 7,364 registered candidates across seven examination centers, 6,682 sat for the CPA exams. Significantly, women represented the majority of the new CPA qualifiers, with 61 candidates (52.1%) passing, compared to 56 male candidates.
The results also highlighted an uptick in performance for the Certified Tax Advisor (CTA) program, achieving an overall pass rate of 54.8%, an improvement from the 47.3% recorded in December 2025. Female candidates also demonstrated stronger performance in the CTA examinations.
PAEB officials attributed the improved pass rates to enhanced candidate preparation and increased participation in student support initiatives leading up to the May examinations. This marks the first of three examination sessions scheduled for 2026.
Representatives from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) noted that the rising number of successful candidates reflects the growing demand for skilled accounting and taxation professionals. ICPAU President David Timothy Ediomu encouraged the newly qualified accountants to join the institute and leverage their expertise to promote accountability and sound financial management. He also urged those who did not pass to remain persistent. The CPA and CTA are highly respected professional certifications in Uganda for careers in accounting, auditing, and taxation in both public and private sectors.
