Leaders across Ssingo County have committed to enhancing collaboration and coordination to improve service delivery to the populace. The meeting, orchestrated by Buganda Kingdom’s Minister for Local Governments, Joseph Kawuki, brought together political, cultural, and local government figures.
Participants included the Ssingo County Chief, Deogratious Kagimu, local MPs, and district chairpersons. Minister Kawuki urged attendees to prioritize citizen welfare, actively address community challenges such as taxation, healthcare, and education, and remain vocal on these matters.
He emphasized the leaders’ role in championing the Buganda Kingdom’s interests and following up on longstanding issues with the central government, particularly concerning land and federalism. Kawuki highlighted that MPs who support county development initiatives often gain broader public trust, transcending political affiliations.
Plans were also announced for a perimeter wall around the Ssingo County headquarters, with a call for leaders’ support. Additionally, efforts to bolster the county football team ahead of upcoming competitions were discussed.
County Chief Kagimu welcomed the gathering, stressing the importance of unity for effective service delivery. He acknowledged Buganda Kingdom’s contributions to Ssingo, including vocational schools and Busimbi Hospital, but underscored the need for leaders to ensure these services yield tangible improvements.
MP Keefa Kiwanuka praised the initiative for fostering coordination and improving service delivery. However, he raised concerns about the handling of land disputes, suggesting the conduct of some police officers exacerbates conflicts, hindering peace and development.
The meeting preceded Ssingo’s football season opener against Kabula, an event anticipated to unite the county.
