An extensive police operation across Kampala Metropolitan East and Mukono has resulted in the arrest of 40 suspects and the recovery of 16 motorcycles. The coordinated raids targeted criminal hotspots and suspected illegal activities in areas including Kireka, Bweyogerere, and Bukerere.

Acting on intelligence, police in Kireka uncovered an alleged illegal motorcycle reassembly garage. Twelve male suspects were arrested at the scene, and 16 motorcycles, pending verification of ownership and registration, were seized. These vehicles have been moved to Jinja Road Police Station for further investigation.

Further operations were conducted in various zones within Kira Division and Mukono District, focusing on individuals suspected of engaging in street robberies and narcotic substance abuse. A total of 28 additional suspects, including three females, were apprehended during these sweeps, with suspected narcotics also being recovered.

All 40 arrested individuals are currently in police custody and will face legal proceedings. These operations are part of a broader strategy by the Uganda Police Force to dismantle criminal networks, recover stolen property, and enhance public safety within the metropolitan region.

This crackdown occurs amidst a reported decline in overall crime cases in Uganda, as indicated by the 2025 Annual Crime Report. Despite this positive trend, police continue to prioritize efforts against motorcycle theft, violent crimes, and organized criminal activity.
