The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a civic organization chaired by Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has seen a significant leadership transition, with members commending the outgoing team for their three-year service. The organization is now urging the newly appointed leadership to make the fight against corruption and the strengthening of accountability mechanisms a top priority.
This reshuffle follows a series of appointments announced by General Muhoozi. Notable changes include Fadil Twaha stepping in as the new Secretary General. The organization’s focus is now shifting towards more robust oversight of government initiatives, particularly at the local level where concerns about resource mismanagement have been raised.
PLU coordinator for the Greater Kigezi region, Joventi Kyalimpa, characterized the changes as a positive step towards leadership renewal. He highlighted the achievements of the previous leadership, including mobilizing support for President Museveni and expanding the organization’s reach and structure across Uganda.
Kyalimpa specifically called on the new leaders to dedicate their efforts to monitoring government programs meticulously. “The new leaders should pay close attention to monitoring government programs, especially in local governments where taxpayer funds are often mismanaged,” he stated, emphasizing the need for fiscal responsibility.
The organization has invited all PLU members to attend the swearing-in ceremony for the new leadership, scheduled to take place at the PLU headquarters in Naguru.
