Buganda Kingdom has initiated a drive to encourage occupants of Kabaka’s land to formalize their bibanja interests through registration. The initiative aims to enhance land administration, secure lawful occupants, and improve coordination with Kingdom authorities.

David FK Mpanga, the Minister of Lands and Housing, representing the Katikkiro, stressed that the Kingdom’s objective is not to evict or confiscate land but to ensure all bibanja holders are properly documented and protected. “Every occupant should be known, protected and secure on the Kabaka’s land by ensuring that they complete the necessary registration processes,” Mpanga stated during a recent event.

The call for registration was made during a function where subjects from Buvuma and Bulemeezi counties contributed over sh37 million towards Kingdom activities. Mpanga also advised residents, particularly those in Buvuma, to diversify their income streams due to economic challenges, especially in the fishing sector.

Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the importance of public health, urging for better hygiene standards and community responsibility in preventing sanitation-related diseases. He encouraged regular hand washing and maintaining clean environments to avert health issues.

The event also saw Minister for Local Governments, Joseph Kawuki, challenging attending students to be disciplined and aspire to become productive citizens who contribute to national development. Buvuma County Chief, Mbuubi Mboowa Michael Wamala, highlighted the severe socio-economic hardships faced by island communities due to restrictions on fishing activities, which have exacerbated poverty.

The occasion was graced by several Kingdom officials and leaders, and donations totaling sh37,258,000 were collected from various representatives and partners.
