Rt. Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo, the Bishop of Mukono Diocese, has appealed to parents and educational stakeholders to maintain their commitment to children’s education despite the economic strains affecting many families.

Bishop Kagodo made these remarks during an inspection tour of Church of Uganda-founded schools in Mukono District. This tour allowed him to assess academic performance, infrastructure, and the overall well-being of students at institutions like Kikubo and Katosi Church of Uganda Primary Schools.

He lauded teachers for their dedication to nurturing students academically, morally, and spiritually, highlighting that effective education requires a collective effort from schools, parents, religious bodies, and the government. “Parents remain the foundation of every successful school,” Bishop Kagodo stated. “Regardless of the financial pressures families are facing, we must continue investing in our children’s education because they are the future of our communities and our nation.”

The bishop also stressed the importance of parental attention to children’s nutrition and health, warning that poor health can impede academic progress. He further cautioned parents against misinformation that could jeopardize their children’s welfare and education.

At Kikubo Church of Uganda Primary School, Head Teacher David Magino shared challenges such as political interference and misconceptions about parental contributions. Despite these, he noted significant improvements since 2021, with enrolment rising from 40 to 477 students.

Miriam Mugabi, Head Teacher at Katosi Church of Uganda Primary School, cited issues including noise pollution, staff shortages, flooding, poor sanitation, and limited space. Economic hardship stemming from declining fishing activities has also led to migration and impacted school enrollment.

In parallel, Diocesan Education Secretary Rev. Seezi Musoke encouraged teachers to pursue further qualifications, noting that professional development is crucial for improving education standards and potentially for future salary enhancements.

Bishop Kagodo committed to fostering stronger community support for schools and reinforcing the parental role in education. He also called on the government to adopt policies that balance environmental conservation with the livelihoods of fishing communities.

The visit concluded with pupils showcasing their spiritual knowledge, which Bishop Kagodo commended as vital for shaping responsible citizens.
