Germany has kicked off their World Cup campaign with a resounding 7-1 victory against newcomers Curacao, bringing a sense of relief to players and fans alike.

Felix Nmecha set the tone early, scoring the fastest goal of the tournament just six minutes in. Nico Schlotterbeck, Kai Havertz with a brace, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, and Deniz Undav also found the back of the net in a commanding performance.

This marks Germany’s first opening win at a World Cup in twelve years, extending their current winning streak to ten consecutive matches. The four-time champions are aiming to restore their international reputation after disappointing group-stage exits in 2018 and 2022.

While the scoreline might suggest an easy game, Germany’s performance in the first half was marred by some sloppy finishing. However, they improved significantly after the break. Midfielder Nathaniel Brown, in particular, impressed with his best international performance to date, contributing a goal and an assist.

Substitute Deniz Undav also made a significant impact, providing an assist for Brown and scoring himself, before assisting Kai Havertz for the final goal. Undav, the Bundesliga’s second-highest scorer last season, showcased his form despite not starting the match.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann acknowledged the win but emphasized that tougher challenges lie ahead against Ivory Coast and Ecuador. The dominant victory has certainly boosted Germany’s confidence and provided a healthy goal difference early in the group stage.
