Police in Mityana District have successfully located and secured a rifle that was reported missing on May 20, 2026. The firearm had disappeared while under the care of Baluku Anderson, a security guard with Neptune Guards Ltd, who was stationed at Shrida Investment Ltd.
Following the initial report, security personnel arrested Baluku, who was subsequently remanded as investigations commenced. The breakthrough in the case occurred on June 11, 2026, when a resident of Kikandwa Village in Kassanda District stumbled upon the weapon.
The resident, Matovu Salim, was gathering bean husks for fuel in his garden when he found the rifle. It was wrapped in a black pair of trousers and hidden within the husks, which had been left after local bean threshing activities.
Matovu promptly alerted his son, and the local authorities were notified. Police visited the scene, documented the discovery, and took statements from witnesses before recovering the firearm. A verification of the serial number, UG PSO-564211567/15036, confirmed it was the exact rifle reported stolen in Mityana.
While the weapon is now safely in police custody, investigations are ongoing to determine how the rifle traveled from Mityana to its hiding place in Kassanda. Police have reassured the public that the missing firearm has been recovered and urged continued vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities.
