The FUFA Women’s Cup is poised for a potentially landmark final as fierce rivals Kawempe Muslim and Kampala Queens (KQ) secured dominant victories in their semifinal first-leg encounters.
Kawempe Muslim, last year’s Cup finalists, are on the verge of revenge against Amus College, whom they defeated 3-0 away from home. A strategic midfield reinforcement, bringing in the industrious Zainah Nambozo, seemed to pay dividends. Jovia Nakagolo opened the scoring early, followed by a brace from Latifah Nakasi, putting Kawempe in a commanding position for the return leg.
Meanwhile, Kampala Queens capitalized on their home advantage, triumphing 2-0 over Lady Doves at the MTN Omondi Stadium. Kamiyati Naigaga netted the opener just before halftime, with Joanitah Ainembabazi extending their lead shortly after the restart. This victory provides KQ with a comfortable cushion as they prepare for their away fixture.
For Kampala Queens, reaching the final would offer a significant boost to their season, particularly after falling out of the league title race. Their underdog status, having previously held Kawempe to a draw in the league, could make them a dangerous opponent in a potential final.
A championship match featuring both Kawempe Muslim and Kampala Queens would mark the first time these leading clubs, who often vie for the league title, meet in the Cup’s ultimate showdown. Previous finals have featured other strong contenders, but not this particular, high-profile rivalry at the pinnacle of the season.
