Veteran Ugandan artist Kalifah Aganaga, with nearly fifteen years in the music industry, has voiced strong criticism against the current generation of musicians.
Aganaga argues that many artists have become excessively dependent on platforms like TikTok for music promotion and distribution. He believes this reliance breeds laziness and a lack of dedication to the craft of music creation itself.
“Artists need to look beyond social media. Many have grown lazy and too dependent on TikTok. It is actually affecting the industry. It is the reason we are getting half-baked music,” Aganaga stated in a recent interview. He added that artists are “sleeping instead of creating music” and not dedicating enough effort to external promotion.
Aganaga, who has navigated the evolving music landscape for over a decade, emphasized the importance of creating music with lasting appeal. He urged his fellow artists to focus on producing timeless pieces that can endure beyond fleeting social media trends, thereby building a meaningful and enduring legacy in the Ugandan music scene.
This perspective highlights a growing debate within the industry about the impact of fast-paced digital promotion on artistic quality and long-term career sustainability.
