Police in Mubende Municipality intercepted a motorcycle carrying four slaughtered dogs shortly after midnight on Saturday. The rider and passenger were stopped during a routine patrol after they failed to heed a police checkpoint.
Upon searching the motorcycle, officers discovered the dog carcasses concealed in a polythene bag. When questioned, the suspects revealed their destination: roadside meat markets within Mubende.
During interrogation, the individuals confessed to a daily operation of trapping stray dogs from surrounding villages. They claimed to sell the slaughtered animals to vendors at popular roadside stops along the Kampala-Mubende-Fort Portal highway. These vendors, in turn, allegedly pass off the dog meat as roasted goat meat to unsuspecting travelers.
The suspects are currently detained as police broaden their investigations to identify any accomplices and vendors involved in the illicit trade. They are being held on charges related to injuring animals, which falls under the Penal Code Act. Police have not yet commented on this specific incident.
