Deo Sendegeya, the new Chairperson of Buwama Sub-county, has made a strong stance against occupying the sub-county headquarters, citing alarming structural issues.

Sendegeya revealed that the building, less than three years old, already displays extensive cracks on its walls, a leaking roof, and deteriorating verandas. These defects, he believes, point to poor workmanship and the likely use of substandard building materials.

“The roof is already leaking, which suggests poor workmanship and the possible use of substandard materials,” Sendegeya stated during an inspection. He added that sections of the verandas had detached, allowing water to damage the interior and cause paint to peel.

The chairperson declared he will not move into his office until government engineers and technical experts have assessed the building and certified it safe for use. He is particularly concerned about accountability for the funds allocated to the project under the previous administration led by Frank Kasule.

“I will not occupy it until anti-corruption agencies investigate everyone involved in the project and explain how a building can deteriorate so badly within just a few years,” Sendegeya asserted. He emphasized that fighting corruption and ensuring public resources serve the community were key reasons for seeking office.

Sendegeya’s refusal to occupy the premises highlights concerns about quality assurance and value for money in local government infrastructure projects.
