Archbishop Kaziimba urges unity during farewell tour ahead of retirement

As his tenure as the ninth Archbishop of the Church of Uganda draws to a close, Archbishop Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu has commenced a farewell tour across the Ankole region. Ahead of his mandatory retirement next year at the age of 65, he addressed hundreds of Christians at St. Paul’s Cathedral in the North West Ankole Diocese, urging them to make unity, love, and peaceful coexistence the cornerstones of their faith and community.

Archbishop Kaziimba stressed that these virtues are indispensable for both a robust Church and a developing society. “Unity is what strengthens the Church and enables us to fulfill God’s mission. Regardless of our tribes, denominations, or social status, we must remain united and work together for the growth of the Church and our communities,” he stated during his sermon.

He further encouraged the congregation to foster mutual respect and harmony, cautioning that divisions can impede spiritual and social progress. The Archbishop also clarified that his retirement from active leadership would not signify an end to his ministry. “Retirement does not mean stepping away from serving God. I will continue preaching the Gospel and supporting Church activities whenever called upon,” he assured the faithful.

Leaders within the North West Ankole Diocese, including Head of Laity Lay Canon Christopher Bjshaka, expressed gratitude for Archbishop Kaziimba’s dedicated service and leadership. Bjshaka commended his commitment and guidance, noting its positive impact on strengthening the Church and inspiring Christians nationwide.

Congregants and church officials acknowledged Archbishop Kaziimba’s role in providing spiritual direction during a period of significant growth and change within the Church of Uganda. The Archbishop is scheduled to continue his farewell engagements in other dioceses within the Ankole region as his retirement approaches.
