Uganda’s recent cabinet reshuffle has left many feeling a sense of déjà vu, with familiar faces in new or unchanged portfolios. This has sparked imagination: what if citizens could appoint their own ministers based on influence and impact, rather than political maneuvering?

In this playful exercise, Uganda Online proposes a ‘People’s Cabinet’. For the crucial Ministry of Finance, music icon Eddy Kenzo is suggested, lauded for his unique approach to economics, exemplified by his now-infamous financial advice. Partnering him is Pumla Nabachwa, recognized for her ability to demystify financial concepts for the public.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is envisioned with Bad Black and DJ Spinny. Spinny is credited with fostering East African integration through his popular events in Kigali, while Bad Black is celebrated for her unvarnished honesty and fearlessness, promising a new era of transparent diplomacy.

Tourism is highlighted by the inclusion of Simon Kaggwa Njala, whose impactful interviews have inadvertently boosted Uganda’s global visibility. He is paired with Kirabo Kisitu, whose viral moments and online presence contribute to the nation’s digital footprint.

For Internal Affairs, the investigative prowess of blogger Kasuku is paired with the unpredictable energy of artiste Alien Skin, symbolizing a unique approach to understanding and managing public order.

The Ministry of Gender features a dynamic duo: Sheebah Karungi, a champion for women’s empowerment, and Godfrey Kuteesa, a strong advocate for traditional masculinity. Their contrasting viewpoints are expected to ensure lively discourse within the ministry.

Finally, the Ministry of Defence is uniquely placed under the purview of Ninye Tabz, nicknamed ‘Uganda’s People’s FBI’. His real-time information gathering and social media influence make him the ultimate guardian of national secrets, acting as a proactive defence mechanism.

This ‘People’s Cabinet’ offers a humorous yet thought-provoking look at who Ugandans might choose if given the chance, prioritizing cultural impact and public engagement over traditional qualifications.
