Police in Kampala have made significant progress in a recent robbery case, arresting two suspects in connection with the theft of Shs45,184,600 from officials of the Riverside Forex Bureau. The incident, which occurred on May 6, involved the interception of the bureau’s manager and a colleague as they transported a substantial amount of foreign currency.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the duo was travelling from Bunga Trading Centre with $13,000 intended for an exchange. After completing the transaction at a forex bureau on Kampala Road, they were allegedly ambushed by assailants on motorcycles in Nsambya.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Yudah Kamoga, also known as “Sparta,” and Arnold Kayabula, a boda boda rider. Their apprehension on Thursday marks a development in the ongoing efforts to disrupt a suspected robbery ring operating within the metropolitan area.

Investigators recovered a motorcycle, registration number UMA 655GK, which is believed to have been used in the robbery, and police noted that its number plate had reportedly been falsified. A second motorcycle, UMA 602KK, also suspected to have been involved in the attack, was recovered as well.

Both Kamoga and Kayabula are currently in police custody. Investigations are actively continuing to determine their precise roles in the robbery and to identify and apprehend any other individuals involved.

“The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue to establish their specific roles in the robbery and to identify and apprehend other accomplices,” Owoyesigyire stated, emphasizing the police commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice.
