Kasaija Urges Economic Continuity as he Hands Over Finance Ministry

Veteran minister Matia Kasaija has officially handed over the reins of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, urging his former colleagues to safeguard the nation’s economic achievements and maintain a focus on sustainable growth.
During the handover ceremony in Kampala, Kasaija emphasized that Uganda’s economy is on a positive trajectory and cautioned against any actions that could derail the progress made. “The economy is moving forward and we should not accept anybody or anything that will start pulling us down,” he stated, reflecting on the generation’s contribution to the country.
He expressed gratitude for the support received from both political and technical staff during his tenure and encouraged continued dedication to public service. The incoming minister, Henry Musasizi, lauded Kasaija as a sincere and trustworthy leader, highlighting their long working relationship since 2011.
Musasizi acknowledged Kasaija’s role in strengthening the ministry and pledged to continue implementing policies aimed at economic expansion. “We have a common responsibility of continuing to grow this economy. No one can achieve this alone. We must continue working together as a team,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of collaborative effort.
State Minister for Planning, Amos Lugoloobi, stressed the need for increased investment in physical planning to manage Uganda’s rapid urbanisation and industrialisation. He also highlighted the importance of maximizing opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) through enhanced regional integration and export market access.
State Minister for General Duties Cissy Mulondo echoed sentiments of appreciation for Kasaija’s service, pledging her commitment to learning from her colleagues and supporting the ministry’s agenda under the new leadership. The transition signals a new chapter for the Finance Ministry, with an avowed commitment to continuity in policies driving economic growth, job creation, and regional integration.
