President Yoweri Museveni presented the annual State of the Nation Address to the Ugandan Parliament and the public today. This significant address formally opens the first session of the current parliamentary term, as stipulated by Article 101 (1) of the Constitution. This constitutional provision requires the President to update the nation on its condition at the start of each parliamentary session.

The important parliamentary sitting took place at the Kololo National Ceremonial Grounds. The event commenced in the afternoon, with proceedings broadcast to allow wider public access.

In accordance with established health guidelines aimed at curbing the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease, attendance at the venue was limited. Only Members of Parliament, essential Parliament staff, and a select few invited guests were permitted to be present in person. The proceedings were, however, made accessible to a broader audience through live broadcasts on various radio and television stations, as well as online platforms.

This address sets the stage for the legislative agenda and policy priorities for the coming period, providing insights into the government’s plans and outlook for the country.
