Dr. Monica Musenero, the outgoing Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, has issued a strong caution to her successor, Jonard Asiimwe, urging him to guard against unofficial or ‘self-styled’ advisors.

During the official handover ceremony held at Serena Hotel in Kampala, Dr. Musenero, who has been transferred to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on the ministry’s established vision and strategic priorities.

“Do not be confused by people who come pretending to be advisers. Stay focused on the work and the vision of the ministry,” Dr. Musenero advised Asiimwe, while also offering her support and availability for consultation.

She highlighted that while Uganda has established a solid foundation in innovation during her tenure, significant work remains to translate research and development into broad economic transformation. She encouraged Asiimwe to collaborate closely with government technocrats, researchers, and industry players to ensure scientific advancements yield tangible benefits for Ugandans.

Incoming Minister Jonard Asiimwe acknowledged Dr. Musenero’s contributions and pledged to build upon the progress initiated under her leadership. He expressed gratitude to President Museveni for the appointment and stressed that Uganda’s scientific and technological journey is a result of sustained investment and policy support.

Asiimwe further stated that science and technology are crucial for national development and global competitiveness, calling for their integration across all government ministries in service delivery and economic planning. The transition occurs as the ministry aims to accelerate the commercialization of local innovations and enhance Uganda’s standing in fields like biotechnology, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and digital transformation.
