Police in Kampala have made a significant breakthrough in combating local crime, arresting three suspects and recovering live ammunition. The operation, conducted in the Salaama area of Makindye Division, also yielded a toy pistol, prompting further investigation into a potential criminal network.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson, SP Rachel Kawala, the arrests followed a tip-off about individuals involved in panga-related attacks. “At about 2:00 a.m., police officers on patrol received information about two men who were allegedly involved in attacking people with pangas and were reportedly sleeping in a house located in Zikusooka Zone, Salaama,” she stated.

The swift police response led to the apprehension of two men and one woman at their suspected hideout. A search of the premises uncovered a backpack containing various items, including a toy gun, a metallic torch, a screwdriver, a sensor, and a knife. More critically, officers also discovered 10 rounds of live ammunition. The suspects are now detained at Katwe Police Station, where they are undergoing interrogation.

This recovery comes amidst a broader concern over escalating armed violence across Uganda. Recent weeks have seen reports of aggravated robberies, shootings, and other violent incidents in various parts of the country, including Agago, Kitgum, and Gulu.

The police are working to ascertain the origin of the recovered ammunition and the full extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement in criminal activities. The ongoing investigation aims to determine any potential links to the wider wave of armed crime affecting the region.
