Museveni Applauds Busoga Boda Bodas for Peacekeeping and Program Promotion
President Yoweri Museveni has recognized the boda boda riders of Busoga for their role in maintaining peace and actively promoting government initiatives within the region. President Yoweri Museveni has commended the boda boda fraternity in the Busoga sub-region for their significant contributions to peace and the dissemination of government programs. Represented by Alhaji Faruk Kirunda, Special Presidential Assistant-Press and Mobilization, the President lauded the riders for their organized operations and coordinated leadership.
During a meeting with Boda Boda chairpersons from Busoga in Nakasero, President Museveni encouraged the riders to continue their work as crucial links in government poverty alleviation efforts. He stressed the importance of engaging passengers in discussions about these programs to foster wider adoption and improve livelihoods.
Alhaji Kirunda assured the fraternity that presidential pledges made to them would be fulfilled, acknowledging current national priorities like AFCON preparations and teacher salary increments. He also tasked the riders with mobilizing the community for upcoming Local Council (LC) I elections.
Clarifying financial matters, Alhaji Kirunda debunked rumors of allocated funds reaching Boda Boda SACCOs in Busoga, stating that such claims are false and that communication will be made once funding becomes available.
Maj. Emma Kuteesa, representing the State House Comptroller, confirmed the existence and legitimacy of the Busoga Boda Boda SACCOs after conducting due diligence. He advised members to actively save within their SACCOs and emphasized the importance of judiciously utilizing any future government funding to ensure it benefits all members, citing past instances in Kampala where funds were misused on luxury items like drone cars.
Hon. Stephen Kisa, MP for Luuka South County and Chairperson of the Busoga Parliamentary Caucus, expressed gratitude for the government’s empowerment of the boda boda sector. The caucus pledged to prioritize mindset change and promote government livelihood programs in Busoga.
Mr. Eria Simon Musobya, Chairperson of the Boda Boda riders in Busoga, reiterated the fraternity’s appreciation for President Museveni’s support, highlighting his attendance at a rally in Busoga in January 2025 as a demonstration of his commitment.
