13 Security Guards Detained After Equator Varsity Hostel Break-In

Police in Masaka City have apprehended 13 security guards in connection with a recent break-in at a female students’ hostel at Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSat).
The guards, all employed by PSG Security Company Limited, were reportedly on duty at the time the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Preliminary reports from the Southern Regional Police indicate that valuable items such as laptops, mobile phones, and cash were stolen from the students.
Mr. Twaha Kasirye, the Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrests, stating that some suspects were apprehended while attempting to flee the scene. He assured that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest other individuals believed to be involved who are currently at large.
“We have managed to arrest some people who are going to help our detectives in the investigations; some were caught as they tried to flee the area following the incident,” Kasirye stated. He added that the arrested individuals will soon be presented in court.
Equator University of Science and Technology, which began enrolling students in 2021, has a main campus adjacent to the Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, which it utilizes as a teaching hospital. The university hosts approximately 600 students, including a significant number of international students from various African nations and beyond.
