President Yoweri Museveni will today address the nation and Parliament, undertaking a constitutional mandate to report on the country’s progress and future outlook. This significant event serves as the official opening of the 1st Session of the current Parliament and the President’s first address of this term.
Article 101 (1) of the Constitution mandates the President to “deliver to Parliament an address on the state of the nation” at the beginning of each parliamentary session. This tradition underscores the principle of executive accountability to the legislature and the public.
The address will take place at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds this afternoon, commencing at 2:00 PM. Due to ongoing health protocols aimed at preventing the spread of Ebola, attendance at the venue has been strictly limited. Only Members of Parliament, essential parliamentary staff, and a select few individuals will be present in person.
For the wider public to follow the proceedings, the State of the Nation Address will be broadcast live across various selected radio and television stations, as well as through online platforms. This ensures that citizens across Uganda can remain informed about the government’s agenda and the nation’s condition.
