Authorities in Mpigi District have apprehended traditional healer Yusufu Kaweesi, widely known as Jjaja Isabirye, on serious allegations of exploiting and sexually abusing female clients. The arrest followed a significant operation at his shrine in Kitavujja Cell, Mpigi Town Council, which was initiated after community members raised concerns about his conduct.

The operation, led by Bumaali Lugona, head of operations at Mpigi Central Police Station, and Nalongo Nambi Nakasujja, the local supervisor for traditional healers, resulted in the closure of Kaweesi’s shrine. Several items were seized from the premises, including a machete, a dagger, documents related to deceased individuals, and a hair dryer, all of which police will use as evidence in their ongoing investigation.

One woman, who chose to remain anonymous, shared her disturbing experience, stating she sought Kaweesi’s help to resolve a landlord dispute but was left traumatized by what occurred at the shrine. She narrowly escaped abuse during her visit.

Despite the testimonies and seized items, Kaweesi vehemently denies all accusations, claiming they are part of a plot to damage his reputation. However, Nakasujja emphasized that the shrine was closed to prevent any further alleged misconduct while police conduct their inquiries.

Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid their investigation. Yusufu Kaweesi is currently in custody at Mpigi Central Police Station, awaiting further questioning.
