Vipers SC have once again proven their mettle by clinching their eighth Uganda Premier League title, a victory that stands out due to the significant challenges overcome. The 2025/2026 campaign was far from a smooth sailing, beginning with a series of unconvincing performances that left the club trailing early contenders and sparking concern among their fanbase.

The team struggled with cohesion and dropped crucial points, leading many to doubt their title aspirations. This poor on-pitch form was further exacerbated by widespread frustration across the league regarding significant structural changes and scheduling disruptions. Clubs voiced concerns about fixture congestion, tactical imbalances, and administrative bottlenecks, creating an environment of uncertainty.

For a club like Vipers, known for its meticulous planning and high standards, this “structural chaos” presented an immense hurdle. However, instead of faltering, the Venoms, under the guidance of coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert, embarked on an impressive 16-match unbeaten run. This remarkable streak dramatically altered the course of the season.

While rivals faltered in the crucial final stages, Vipers displayed a newfound ruthlessness. They combined a strong defensive unit with timely goal-scoring, notably securing a decisive 3-0 victory against Maroons to put them in a commanding position. The final 2-0 win over Express sealed their championship.

A pivotal figure in navigating this turbulent period was club president Lawrence Mulindwa. His steadfast leadership and refusal to yield to pressure during the initial struggles and league uncertainties provided the necessary stability. Mulindwa ensured the team’s professional environment remained intact, insulating the players from external noise and absorbing pressure from media and fans.

His vocal stance advocating for clarity within Ugandan football’s governance, while simultaneously maintaining the club’s pursuit of excellence, was instrumental. This eighth league title is not just a testament to the players’ resilience and tactical prowess, but also to the unwavering belief and courage shown by their president, proving Vipers’ winning culture is exceptionally robust amidst adversity.
