New Ministers Vow to Drive Government Agenda Forward
Following their vetting by the Parliament Committee on Appointments, designated ministers have committed to advancing government plans and targets. Designated ministers, after successfully undergoing vetting by the Parliament Committee on Appointments, have publicly committed to achieving the government’s development goals. The rigorous vetting process, chaired by Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth, saw nominees present their plans and pledges for their respective portfolios.
Rebecca Kadaga, nominee for First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, highlighted her intention to bolster the East African Community (EAC). She plans to actively encourage member states to meet their financial obligations, noting that the regional body currently relies heavily on contributions from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Kadaga intends to visit EAC capitals to foster greater financial commitment, emphasizing the shared benefits and collective responsibility for the Community’s sustainability.
Phiona Nyamutoro, designated as Minister of State for Mineral Development, pledged to champion the utilization of Uganda’s natural resources for the betterment of its citizens and the nation’s economic growth. Similarly, Dr. Monica Musenero, nominated for Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, outlined priorities including expanding electricity access, expediting oil production, and improving regulatory frameworks within the mining sector.
Amos Lugoloobi, the Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Planning), observed the increasing alignment of Uganda’s development plans with continental aspirations like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He stressed the importance of African unity in pursuing common economic objectives. Lugoloobi also vowed to enhance planning and implementation strategies to support Uganda’s Vision 2040, which aims for a substantial increase in the country’s GDP.
The ministers expressed appreciation for the constructive and welcoming atmosphere during their vetting sessions.
