Kampala’s Dolphins Swim Club emerged victorious at the 10th Kenya Aquatics National Swimming Long-course Championships held recently in Nairobi. The club dominated the points standings, amassing 370 points to outshine fellow Ugandan club Sailfish Swim Club, which secured second place with 266.5 points. The competition saw over 650 swimmers from approximately 80 clubs vie for supremacy.

Dolphins not only led in points but also topped the medal table, securing an impressive haul of 28 gold, 20 silver, and 15 bronze medals. Sailfish Swim Club also had a commendable performance, finishing with 19 gold, 12 silver, and 11 bronze medals, and was recognized as the best boys’ team.

Other Ugandan clubs also made their presence felt. Gators, the previous year’s champions, finished fourth overall in points. Imara Aquatics secured eighth place in the points standings and fourth in the medal table for Ugandan teams with four gold, 10 silver, and one bronze medal. Torpedoes, Otters, and Aqua Akii also contributed to Uganda’s strong showing with their respective medal tallies.

Coaches highlighted the event as a crucial developmental opportunity, exposing swimmers to high-level competition and long-course racing, which is less common in Uganda. The championship provided valuable lessons in race management and swimmer recovery, preparing the athletes for upcoming national and regional events. Despite the challenging cold pool conditions, swimmers demonstrated resilience and skill, achieving better times in the finals.

This event underscores the growing strength and competitiveness of Ugandan swimming on the regional stage. The success of these clubs demonstrates the dedication of the athletes and the effectiveness of their training programs.
