Soroti Teacher Fatally Struck by Speeding Vehicle on Soroti-Lira Highway
A tragic accident on the Soroti-Lira highway has claimed the life of Joseph Angai, a 48-year-old teacher from Soroti Secondary School. A somber event unfolded along the Soroti-Lira highway on Martyrs Day when Joseph Angai, an educator at Soroti Secondary School, lost his life in a traffic accident.
The 48-year-old resident of Oriamo Sub-County in Kaberamaido District was cycling in Aoya B Village, Abalang Parish, Oriamo Sub-County, when a speeding Toyota Wish vehicle, traveling from Soroti City towards Lira City, struck him.
According to East Kyoga Regional Police Commander, Mr. Ibrahim Saiga, the driver of the vehicle, who hails from Mbale City, has been apprehended and is currently detained at Kaberamaido Central Police Station. “The driver of the motor vehicle has been arrested and is currently in custody to assist with investigations,” Mr. Saiga stated.
Tragically, Angai died at the scene. His body has since been transported to Kaberamaido Hospital for a postmortem examination.
In light of this incident, authorities are appealing to all road users to exercise extreme caution. Motorists are urged to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and to be mindful of the rights and safety of all road users, particularly cyclists and pedestrians.
