Kawempe Muslim Women Football Club is on track to achieve a historic domestic double, having advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the Fufa Women’s Cup. Their latest victory came courtesy of a solitary goal from Latifah Nakasi against her former club, Uganda Martyrs High School (UMHS) Lubaga, a win that edged them closer to their maiden Fufa Women’s Cup title.
Coach Ayub Khalifah expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, emphasizing the importance of competitive matches in their preparation for the forthcoming Caf Women’s Champions League. The quest for the cup is not being pressured as a do-or-die situation for the players, but the determination to win it is evident.
Kawempe Muslim is set to face second-tier side Wakiso Hill in the upcoming quarterfinals. Wakiso Hill earned their place by defeating FWSL runners-up She Corporate in a dramatic penalty shootout. Other notable quarterfinal pairings include defending champions Amus College against She Maroons, and Kampala Queens set for a rematch against St. Noa Girls.
Lady Doves will host Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals, while She Maroons advanced after a victory over Makerere University. The quarterfinal matches are slated for this weekend, with a change in format allowing for extra time before penalties in case of draws, unlike earlier rounds that went straight to shootouts.
The Fufa Women’s Cup continues to be a significant platform for women’s football in Uganda, with several teams vying for the coveted trophy. The advancement of Kawempe Muslim highlights their formidable season, building on their recent Fufa Women Super League triumph.
