New Ministers Pledge Commitment to National Development and EAC Support

Newly appointed ministers have publicly committed to advancing the government’s agenda and achieving national targets during their service. The assurances came after undergoing vetting by the Parliament Committee on Appointments, chaired by Speaker Jacob Oboth.

Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, designated as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, highlighted her intention to rally East African Community (EAC) member states towards fulfilling their financial commitments. She observed that the EAC’s sustainability is heavily reliant on contributions from a few key nations, and aims to encourage greater financial participation from all partners.

Phiona Nyamutoro, nominated for Minister of State for Mineral Development, vowed to champion the growth of Uganda’s mineral resources for the benefit of its citizens. Simultaneously, Dr. Monica Musenero, Minister for Energy and Mineral Development, emphasized priorities such as expanding electricity access, accelerating oil production, and improving regulatory frameworks in the mining sector.

Amos Lugoloobi, Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (Planning), spoke about the alignment of Uganda’s development plans with continental goals, particularly the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He stressed the importance of African unity in pursuing economic prosperity and pledged to enhance planning and implementation to support Uganda’s Vision 2040, with an ambitious goal of increasing the nation’s GDP significantly.

The ministers expressed satisfaction with the open and constructive nature of the vetting proceedings. Their commitments signal a renewed focus on national development and regional cooperation.
