Buganda Kingdom has been saddened by the passing of Omutaka Kabazi David Nampuuma, the respected head of the Kasimba clan. Mr. Nampuuma, a dedicated cultural leader, passed away on Monday while being transported to the hospital after his health condition worsened.
His death was confirmed by Buganda Kingdom’s Minister for Information, Mr. Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, who described the late clan head as a staunch defender of cultural heritage. “The late Omutaka was seen publicly during the clan football match over the weekend at Kawanda Secondary School playground, where the Kasimba clan was playing against the Ngo clan. That turned out to be his last public appearance,” Mr. Kazibwe stated.
Mr. Nampuuma was known for his unwavering commitment to preserving Buganda’s traditions and fostering unity among his clan members. He actively encouraged younger generations to embrace their cultural roots and uphold ancestral customs through various clan activities, including sports and traditional ceremonies.
Speaker of the Council of Clan Heads, Omutaka Augustine Kizito Namwama, informed that the council received the news on Tuesday morning. He noted that as per Kasimba clan customs, burial preparations can only commence after a successor has been identified and installed. The process, which involves the prime ministers of the Nyange and Ngeye clans, is expected to take some time.
Kingdom authorities have indicated that further details regarding the burial date and arrangements will be communicated following extensive consultations with the family, clan members, and Buganda Kingdom leadership.
