Moret Komuhangi, the owner of St Abel Primary School located in Njeru Municipality, has been found safe after being abducted by unknown assailants. She was reportedly held for two days before regaining her freedom.
Sources close to the family confirmed that Komuhangi was discovered on Saturday in the Bujowali-Naminya area, a short distance from her residence. She was described as being in a frail condition and unable to walk on her own, needing assistance from passing teenagers to return home.
Her safe return has eased the anxiety felt by her family, the parents of her students, and the wider community in Mbikko, Bujowali, and surrounding areas, who had been anxiously awaiting updates on her status.
While unconfirmed reports suggest that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Shs 80 million, it remains unclear if any payment was made to secure her release. Local security officials have declined to comment on the ransom allegations or any potential negotiations.
Following her return, a thanksgiving prayer service was held on Sunday to celebrate Komuhangi’s safe recovery. The incident has, however, amplified existing fears within the Bujowali and Naminya communities regarding the escalating insecurity and a perceived rise in armed criminal activities, including kidnappings.
