Muhoozi Kainerugaba to Mediate Uganda Boxing Federation Dispute

Assistant Inspector General of Police, Godfrey Mawanda, has expressed confidence that Lieutenant General Muhoozi Kainerugaba can bring an end to the leadership impasse plaguing the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF). Mawanda believes Kainerugaba’s intervention is crucial to restoring order and ensuring the smooth operation of professional boxing in the country.

The UBF has been the recognized body for professional boxing since 1988, but has recently been embroiled in internal conflicts that threaten its very existence. These disputes have cast a shadow over the sport, potentially hindering development and the staging of professional bouts.

Mawanda suggested that Kainerugaba, a prominent figure in Uganda, possesses the influence and capability to facilitate a resolution. He emphasized that the resolution of these internal wrangles is vital for the future of boxing, including the welfare of boxers and the promotion of the sport.

The appeal for Kainerugaba’s involvement comes at a critical juncture for the UBF, which has faced challenges in its governance and administration. Stakeholders are hoping that a neutral and authoritative figure can help bridge divides and foster unity within the federation, allowing it to focus on its core mandate of developing and regulating professional boxing.
