Sources indicate that the Inspector General of Government (IGG) has formally submitted her investigation report regarding former Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, to President Yoweri Museveni. This action comes as a significant development in a high-profile inquiry that has captured public attention, occurring within the context of the government’s intensified anti-corruption efforts.

The report is understood to have been delivered to the President prior to the recent election of Jacob Oulanyah and Thomas Tayebwa as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively. While the specific findings and recommendations of the IGG’s report are being kept confidential, it is understood to touch upon key areas including Ms. Among’s declared income and assets, her known properties, and her overall lifestyle.

The investigation reportedly gained momentum following a meeting between President Museveni and the IGG to discuss the inquiry’s progress. Investigators are said to have been tasked with a thorough examination of Ms. Among’s declared finances in comparison to her assets and spending habits.

This development aligns with the broader anti-corruption campaign, “Operation Maliza Ufisadi,” publicly supported by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who stated that significant public funds and properties have been recovered. The operation is sanctioned by President Museveni, explaining the report’s direct submission to him.

The investigation into Ms. Among intensified after security agencies conducted searches at her residences, reportedly seizing high-value vehicles. The IGG’s office had previously confirmed receiving a petition alleging potential breaches of the Leadership Code Act by the former Speaker.

Officials from the President’s office and the IGG’s spokesperson have stated they are unaware of the report’s submission, though it was noted that such matters are classified. The President has recently renewed his commitment to tackling corruption, signaling a tougher stance against illicit practices.

It remains unclear what actions, if any, President Museveni will take following the alleged receipt of the report, or whether Ms. Among will face criminal charges.
