In a peculiar turn of events in Busia District, a police sniffer dog led authorities to a suspect who was allegedly caught enjoying a stolen woofer and discovered with a substantial amount of cash. The incident unfolded on Friday, May 29, 2026, when a resident of Abocet Village returned home to find their house had been broken into.
Thieves had reportedly gained entry by excavating the rear of the house and forcing the door. The victim reported multiple items missing, including a mobile phone, a camera, a laptop, and a significant sum of money.
Responding to the report, the Busia District Police deployed a canine unit. The sniffer dog was instrumental, picking up a scent at the crime scene and successfully tracking it for approximately 800 meters to a junction. The dog then continued the pursuit for another 200 meters, directly to the home of Mulyakyami Banuli, a 23-year-old scrap collector.
Upon reaching Banuli’s residence, officers found him inside, seemingly engrossed in dancing to loud music emanating from a woofer system. Believing the audio equipment to be part of the stolen goods, the police arrested Banuli.
A subsequent search of his home yielded more significant findings: Shs4.6 million in cash was discovered hidden beneath his bed. Combined with money found in his pockets, police recovered a total of Shs4,889,100.
The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations are ongoing. Police officials commended the efficiency of the canine unit, highlighting its role in swiftly solving the case. The source for this report is the Daily Monitor.
