Margaret Etilu, who recently secured the Woman Member of Parliament seat for Amuria District, is currently being held by security agencies. Her apprehension took place at the home of former Speaker of Parliament, Annet Anita Among, just prior to the recent elections for the parliamentary leadership.

Her detention has raised concerns among her colleagues, particularly given the ongoing corruption investigations that have ensnared the legislature and Ms. Among. Francis Akorikin, MP for Kapelebyong County, confirmed Etilu’s continued detention and stated that efforts are underway to secure her release, including engaging parliamentary leadership.

“We had an engagement this week with Speaker Jacob Oboth Oboth on how to secure freedom for the Amuria Woman MP. The Speaker offered assurances that he will help, but we still don’t know much about her whereabouts, her state of mind, or her health,” Akorikin commented.

The Teso parliamentary caucus, along with Etilu’s family, is preparing to engage with security agencies. Their objective is to confirm her location, understand the reasons for her arrest, and facilitate her immediate release.

Etilu recently succeeded Suzan Amero as the Amuria District MP. Reports suggest she maintained strong political and personal connections with former Speaker Among during her campaign and after her victory. Official statements from security agencies detailing the charges against Etilu or her current location are still pending.
