Man Fatally Stabbed Over MP-Donated Meat in Rubirizi
A 50-year-old man in Rubirizi District has died after being stabbed during a dispute over the distribution of meat donated by local Member of Parliament Benjamin Cadet. Tragedy struck in Rubirizi District on Thursday evening when a dispute over donated meat led to a fatal stabbing. Joachim Tumwebaze, a 50-year-old resident of Mubanda D Village, Ryeru Sub-county, was killed following a heated argument.
The incident occurred around 9 PM as villagers gathered to receive a share of meat that had been donated by Dunyaruguru Constituency MP Benjamin Cadet. The meat was delivered by one of the MP’s aides.
According to an eyewitness, the situation turned violent when Tumwebaze got into a disagreement with another villager, reportedly in his twenties. The altercation reportedly involved the use of a slaughtering knife in the ensuing fight.
Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Apollo Tayebwa, confirmed the incident, stating that Tumwebaze was rushed to Rubirizi Medical Centre but succumbed to his injuries upon arrival. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack, and police have launched a manhunt.
“As investigations are still ongoing, we urge anyone with information regarding this matter and the whereabouts of the killer to report to the nearest police station to enable quick apprehension of the suspect,” SP Tayebwa appealed. The deceased’s body has been taken to Rugazi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
