Authorities in Kiboga District are actively pursuing Hussein Serugo, 28, following the alleged stabbing death of his partner, Sumaya Natukunda, 25. The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday night inside their rented accommodation in Kakunyu Town Council.

Preliminary investigations suggest a history of mistrust and volatile arguments between the couple, who had been living together for approximately ten months. According to Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, Serugo allegedly confiscated Natukunda’s phone earlier in the day.

Witnesses recount that Natukunda had gone out with a friend and returned later that night. Shortly after her friend departed, screams were heard, and the friend returned to find Natukunda critically injured and bleeding. The landlord was alerted, who subsequently notified the police.

A police team, including a K9 unit, responded to the scene. While the dog tracked Serugo’s scent to the main road, the trail was lost. The body of the deceased has been taken to Kiboga Hospital for a postmortem examination.

This tragic event occurs amidst a broader concerning trend of domestic violence-related homicides in Uganda. Recent police statistics indicate a 13.7% increase in such cases from 2024 to 2025, with 208 domestic violence murders reported in the latter year. These statistics underscore the severity of gender-based and domestic violence nationwide.

Police urge anyone with information regarding Hussein Serugo’s whereabouts to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
