President Yoweri Museveni’s recent ministerial appointments, which included four Senior Cabinet Ministers and sixteen State Ministers, have sparked a wave of celebration and anticipation across Uganda’s Central Region. Residents and local leaders are hopeful that the significant representation, totaling 20 ministerial seats, will translate into tangible benefits and development projects for their communities.

In the Greater Luweero Districts, the community is particularly pleased with the allocation of three ministerial slots, with Luweero District securing two. NRM party mobiliser Abdul Karim Wasswa highlighted the appointments of Dr. Chrysostom Muyingo (State Minister for Higher Education), Ms. Cissy Mulondo (State Minister for Finance, General Duties), and Mr. Kabuye Kyofatogabye (State Minister for Kampala City and Metropolitan Affairs). “This is a big achievement for Greater Luweero. We expect more from the NRM government on top of the new appointments,” Wasswa stated.

Meanwhile, residents of Buvuma, an island district, expressed surprise and delight at the appointment of Mr. Robert Migadde Ndugwa as the State Minister for Fisheries. Local resident Samuel Ssenoga noted the significance of having a minister who understands the challenges faced by the fishing community, stating, “We have got our own and a fisherman with whom we can share our challenges.”

In Mpigi District, the appointment of Mawokota South MP, Suzan Nakawuki Nsambu, as State Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities is seen by some as a recognition of the electorate’s support for the NRM. A local resident, Moses Mukwaya, described Nakawuki as a visible and development-oriented leader, predicting that the area is likely to benefit more from government initiatives.

The appointments have been met with varied reactions across the country, but within the Central Region, the general sentiment is one of pride and optimism for the future. The increased presence in government is expected to boost local economies and facilitate the implementation of development agendas.
