The Bunyoro sub-region is buzzing with excitement following President Yoweri Museveni’s recent cabinet reshuffle, which saw four ministers appointed from the area. This recognition has been hailed by local leaders as a strong indication of the government’s continued appreciation for Bunyoro’s contribution to national progress.

Among the newly appointed are Jonard Asiimwe for Science and Technology, Mary Mugasa for Bunyoro Affairs, and Fred Byamukama taking on the Ministry of Transport. Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja also retained her crucial position.

Stephen Ayesiga Mugabi, Chairperson of the Bunyoro Youth Caucus, described the appointments as a “big opportunity” for the region to advance its development agenda. He expressed confidence that the new ministers, with their understanding of local challenges, will champion crucial projects in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and employment.

“We are happy that Bunyoro has continued to be recognised in government appointments,” Mugabi stated. He particularly lauded Asiimwe’s appointment to Science and Technology, emphasizing its importance in an era focused on industrialization and innovation.

The Prime Minister of Bunyoro Kingdom, Andrew Byakutaga, also welcomed the ministerial changes, urging the appointees to collaborate with cultural institutions and local leaders to enhance the welfare of the people. He highlighted persistent issues such as poor infrastructure, unemployment, and land matters, expressing hope that the ministers will ensure government services reach the grassroots effectively.

Masindi District Chairperson, Cosmas Byaruhanga, echoed sentiments of confidence in Bunyoro’s leadership capabilities and expressed expectations for focused service delivery and unity promotion.

While widespread optimism prevails, some leaders, like Mugabi, acknowledged the departure of Matia Kasaija from the Finance Ministry, recognizing his significant past contributions to economic planning. The appointments have collectively sparked hope for improved service delivery and accelerated development throughout the Bunyoro region.
