President Yoweri Museveni has announced his new cabinet, confirming key appointments for the 2026-2031 term. Janet Museveni will continue to serve as the Minister of Education and Sports, a role she has held previously.

Several high-ranking officials have also been retained in their existing portfolios. Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao are among those who will continue their duties in their respective positions.

A notable shift sees former Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, appointed as the new Minister of Information, Communications Technology (ICT) and National Guidance. She swaps roles with Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, who now takes over as the Minister of Health.

The reshuffle also marks the return of Jim Muhwezi to the cabinet as Minister, Office of the President, with a focus on Security. Additionally, Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde Kakurugu is back as the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development.

Other appointments include Justine Nameere, Masaka City Woman MP, as Minister of State for Local Government. Jacqueline Mbabazi, wife of former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, has been appointed as Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development, specifically overseeing Elderly Affairs.

The full list of cabinet and senior presidential appointments, pending parliamentary approval, includes numerous other individuals taking up various ministerial roles across different government sectors.

This cabinet renewal signals continuity in some key leadership positions while introducing changes in others, aiming to steer the nation’s development over the next five years. The appointments are subject to parliamentary vetting before they are fully ratified.
