Ahead of the Idd-ul-Adhuha celebrations, the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has issued a message emphasizing the crucial role of respecting faith, religion, and cultural values in fostering peace, unity, and national development. Delivered by Buganda Information Minister Israel Kitone, the Kabaka’s message conveyed gratitude for Muslims reaching this holy occasion and extended prayers for the safety and blessings of pilgrims in Mecca and Medina.

His Majesty expressed hope that those who undertook the Hajj pilgrimage would bring back valuable lessons in human development, patriotism, and a strengthened commitment to their faith. The Kabaka noted that successful nations are often built on a foundation of citizens who trust leadership that champions tolerance, forgiveness, respect for cultural diversity, and equitable distribution of national resources. He cautioned that many African nations struggle due to a failure to learn from past experiences and global development models, identifying greed, intolerance, conflict, and hatred as significant impediments to progress.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Mufti of the Kibuli-based Muslim faction, Sheikh Muhammad Galabuzi, has urged Muslims to diligently follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as preparations for Idd-ul-Adhuha are underway. Citing the cancellation of Martyrs Day celebrations as an indication of the current health risks, Sheikh Galabuzi highlighted the seriousness of the situation and the need for collective responsibility. He advised worshippers to avoid large gatherings, maintain strict hygiene, and adhere to all health guidelines during prayers and subsequent family festivities.

Furthermore, Sheikh Galabuzi encouraged Muslims who are financially able to promptly fulfill their Zakah obligations to aid vulnerable communities during the festive period. He also informed the public that Idd prayers are scheduled to commence at 9 am, following a day of fasting. Idd-ul-Adhuha, a cornerstone of the Islamic calendar, is traditionally observed with prayers, the ritual of sacrifice, acts of charity, and communal meals.
