Holders Amus, League Champs Kawempe Kick Off Fufa Women Cup Campaigns
Defending Fufa Women Cup champions Amus College and league winners Kawempe Muslim are set to begin their cup campaigns this weekend. Defending Fufa Women Cup champions Amus College will start their title defense with an away fixture against Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Ladies this Sunday. The match will be held at Kawempe Muslim Secondary School.
Amus, along with seven other quarter-finalists from last year, received a bye into the Round of 16 due to the large number of registered teams. Ironically, Amus defeated Kawempe Muslim 1-0 in last year’s final. Their opponents, URA Ladies, are closely linked to Kawempe, essentially operating as their second string team.
In the previous round, URA defeated Uganda Martyrs High School (UMHS) Lubaga’s Junior Team 2-0, with goals from Vanessa Namazzi and Elizabeth Nakigozi.
Adding to the story, the senior UMHS team, winners of the Cup in 2023, will also be in action, visiting Kawempe Muslim. Kawempe enters the competition aiming for a double, having recently secured the Finance Trust Bank Fufa Women Super League title.
Other notable fixtures include Kampala Queens hosting She Kasese, and She Corporate facing Wakiso Hill. Makerere University will play She Maroons, while UCU Lady Cardinals take on Bul. St. Noa Girls will host Dream Girls, and Sheema Girls are scheduled to play Lady Doves.
The Round of 16 matches are scheduled to kick off this Saturday and Sunday across various venues.
