After a prolonged political journey spanning 14 years and marked by three prior electoral defeats, George Othuba has officially assumed office as the new LCV Chairperson of Nebbi District. His inauguration at the district headquarters followed a decisive victory in the recent elections, where he garnered 28,526 votes, significantly outperforming his independent opponent.

Othuba, visibly emotional, reflected on the “sufferings and persevering with determination” that characterized his long quest for leadership. He outlined a clear agenda for his administration, prioritizing key sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, water, and sanitation as drivers for community progress.

The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by Nebbi Chief Magistrate H.W. Cyrus Ssennoga Mawano, was a call for unity and accountability. Religious and local leaders stressed the importance of cooperation and diligent governance, highlighting the need for action-based monitoring throughout Othuba’s term.

Retired Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi, in his address, urged Chairman Othuba to decisively tackle developmental hurdles. He cautioned against divisive leadership and spiritual malpractice, emphasizing that true leadership originates from divine providence and should be a conduit for hope. Residents expressed their desire for transparency and accountability, with calls for stringent measures against corruption in public service delivery.

Chairman Othuba pledged to lead with a focus on service delivery and inclusive governance, vowing to adopt a non-sectarian approach to ensure that the district’s development benefits all its citizens. His administration is expected to usher in a new era of focused development for Nebbi District.
