President Yoweri Museveni has sent a clear and unambiguous message to his cabinet nominees: failure to deliver tangible results in poverty reduction will lead to dismissal. Speaking at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds following the election of new parliamentary leadership, Museveni expressed his deep frustration with the persistent poverty in Uganda, despite significant government investments.

“Enough is enough,” the President declared, revealing his “very bad mood” over the situation. He stressed that decades of wealth-creation initiatives, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), have equipped leaders with the necessary tools to transform lives. He asserted that he would no longer be “polite” and would be “very, very rough” with those who seek authority but neglect their duties.

The President highlighted the PDM as a prime example of the resources available, noting that each parish has access to substantial funds for household income generation. He vowed to hold ministers accountable, stating his intention to sack any leader found to have failed their constituents economically. “Why should I care about leaders who don’t care about their own people?” he questioned.

Museveni also took aim at misplaced priorities, questioning leaders who celebrate foreign football clubs while their own communities suffer from poverty and unemployment. He urged leaders to actively mobilize citizens to participate in government programs, citing successful agricultural enterprises born from modest capital as proof that poverty can be overcome with effective leadership.

While not naming individuals, Museveni’s strong words have fueled speculation, particularly in light of recent scrutiny faced by some senior political figures. His emphasis on accountability and a tougher stance on underperformance signals a potential shift in how ministerial effectiveness will be measured and enforced.
