Mityana District police are on the lookout for Dube Nsubuga, 35, who is accused of killing his estranged wife, Sherina Namatovu, 23. The couple had reportedly separated due to ongoing domestic issues. Authorities state that Nsubuga persistently urged Namatovu to return to their home, but she consistently refused.
According to Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SP Lameck Kigozi, the pair attended an introduction ceremony in Namatovu’s village on the night of May 23. Witnesses reported that Nsubuga spent a significant amount of time pleading with Namatovu to reconcile. There are also claims that he had previously issued threats against her if she did not agree to return.
The couple was last seen leaving the event together around 12:35 AM on May 24. Police allege that an argument ensued on their way from the ceremony when Namatovu again refused to go to Nsubuga’s home. The dispute is said to have escalated into violence, leading to Namatovu’s death by strangulation.
Namatovu’s body was discovered later in a cassava garden near a railway line. Investigators noted signs of a struggle at the scene, including abrasions around the neck and a protruding tongue. Her leggings and undergarment were found near the body, which was partially undressed. A postmortem examination is pending at Mityana Hospital.
Nsubuga fled the scene and police efforts to apprehend him are ongoing. This case highlights a concerning trend of domestic violence-related murders in the Wamala Region, following a similar incident just days earlier in Mubende District. The 2025 Annual Crime Police Report indicated an increase in domestic violence murders.
