The Namuwongo Blazers asserted their dominance over rivals City Oilers with a resounding 76-50 victory in a packed Lugogo Indoor Stadium. The win propelled the Blazers to the summit of the National Basketball League, displacing their opponents.
Despite an early 6-2 lead for Oilers, the Blazers quickly took control, ending the first quarter with a narrow 16-14 advantage. From then on, the game became a one-sided affair, with the Blazers extending their lead to six points by halftime and a significant 15 points by the start of the third quarter.
Offensively, the Blazers showcased strong performances from multiple players. Arthur Wanyoto and Fataki Nyembo were key figures in the paint, each contributing 12 points. Nyembo also added nine rebounds and three assists. Fayed Baale was the lone Oilers player to reach double figures, scoring 11 points alongside four rebounds and five assists.
The narrative was amplified by the presence of former Oilers players now with the Blazers. Tonny Drileba and James Okello, instrumental in the Blazers’ championship win last year, were in fine form. Drileba posted 10 points, seven assists, and three rebounds, while Okello narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, complemented by three assists. Jimmy Enabu added eight points off the bench.
For City Oilers, the night was challenging, particularly for Silverbacks center Jonathan Komagum. He struggled against the Blazers’ defense and was eventually subbed out after an unsportsmanlike foul late in the fourth quarter. Komagum finished with five rebounds in 12 minutes.
With identical 16-2 records, both Nam Blazers and City Oilers are strong contenders for the top two positions in the league.
