The Obudhingiya Bwa Bwamba cultural institution has made the decision to postpone its planned 12th coronation anniversary celebrations for King Martin Ayongi Kamya. This move comes in direct response to the recent outbreak of the Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease and the need to safeguard public health.

The annual festivities, along with all associated pre-anniversary activities, were originally slated to take place on May 30. However, kingdom officials, in a high-level meeting at the royal palace, unanimously agreed to reschedule the event to June 27, 2026. This decision prioritizes compliance with Ministry of Health directives aimed at preventing the further spread of the virus.

Prime Minister Bukantwa Charles announced the postponement, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to the well-being of its subjects. He stated that the kingdom will maintain close communication with national and regional Ebola task forces, as well as the District Health Officer, to monitor the evolving health situation.

Bukantwa further indicated that should the outbreak persist beyond the four-week advisory period set by health authorities, the institution would not hesitate to consider a complete cancellation of the event. The coronation anniversary, a significant occasion usually held on May 30 since 2014, typically draws dignitaries and subjects from across the country to foster reflection on cultural development and unity.

Despite preparations being well underway, the postponement allows organizers additional time to finalize arrangements while strictly adhering to necessary health safety measures. The kingdom is urging all residents of Bundibugyo District to remain vigilant, follow Ministry of Health guidelines diligently, and promptly report any suspected Ebola cases to health officials. This year’s celebrations are intended to focus on the theme “Repositioning the youth agenda for a positive transformative Obudhingya Bwamba” and are slated to be held at Ntandi Primary School.
