The extensive corruption investigation targeting Uganda’s legislative leadership has now extended to the countryside, with security forces raiding the rural residence of former Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among. The operation took place on Friday, May 22, 2026, at her estate in Aputput village, Bukedea District.

Seven security vehicles, including detectives from CID, Forensics, and Crime Intelligence, arrived and sealed off the property. Local residents gathered at a distance to observe the developments. This raid signifies a significant escalation in the probe sanctioned by President Museveni, which focuses on allegations of corruption, abuse of office, illicit enrichment, and money laundering against the former Speaker.

The Bukedea operation follows a tumultuous week for Among, involving raids on her urban residences in Nakasero, Ntinda, and Kigo, where significant evidence, including luxury vehicles and cash, was reportedly seized. The investigation also extended to her parliamentary office and that of the Clerk to Parliament.

Amidst mounting pressure, Among withdrew from the race for the 12th Parliament speakership. While details of what was recovered from her Bukedea mansion have not been officially released, investigators believe the rural search is crucial to uncover further assets and understand the scope of the alleged financial network.
