The Uganda Lady Volleyball Cranes have received a major lift with the return of seasoned middle blocker Sharon Amito to the provisional squad. Amito, who missed the team’s last international outing in Cameroon, brings invaluable leadership, experience, and net presence back to the national team.

Her inclusion is particularly timely as the Lady Cranes prepare to host the CAVB Zone V African Nations Championship qualifiers in Kampala from May 31 to June 5. The team aims to secure a spot in the 2026 African Nations Championship scheduled for August in Nairobi, Kenya.

Amito recently celebrated a league championship title with APR in Rwanda, further solidifying her reputation as a top middle blocker in the region. Her presence adds crucial depth and stability to head coach Protus Soita’s squad, complementing established players and emerging talents.

Beyond her on-court skills, Amito’s winning mentality and experience from competing at high levels are expected to positively influence the younger members of the squad. The team itself is a mix of seasoned players like Jennifer Alungat and Moreen Mwamula, alongside promising new talent vying for a place in the final roster.

Uganda will face strong competition from countries such as Kenya, South Sudan, Burundi, Tanzania, and Ethiopia in the qualifiers held at the Lugogo Indoor Arena. Amito and fellow Rwandan-based player Catherine Ainembabazi are expected to join the team imminently following the conclusion of the Rwandan league.
